The Salem softball team will be without its coach and centerfielder today when the Sun Devils face Booker T. Washington in the Eastern Region final at Princess Anne.
The winner will host the Central runner-up, and the loser will travel to play the Central Region champion in Tuesday's Group AAA state quarterfinal round.
Salem coach Larry Bowman and outfielder and No. 3 batter Misty Colebank left Thursday for Paris to take part in an international Under-18 AAU basketball tournament.
The fifth annual Les Cadets De L'Europe will feature teams from Croatia, Greece, Spain, Italy, Sweden, France and Germany. Competition begins Friday and continues through Monday.
Bowman and Colebank, however, will change travel plans to leave Monday so that they can rejoin the Sun Devils for Tuesday's softball game.
Colebank - a 5-foot-10 point guard - was selected to play on an Eastern U.S. all-star team chosen by Boo Williams and Philadelphia AAU director Mike Flynn. Bowman was asked to assist the two in coaching duties.
``We told the team they'd miss Misty a whole lot more than they'd miss me,'' Bowman said. ``I have two very capable assistants (Clay McGary and John McArthy), and they know what to do and when to do it.'' by CNB
