Margaret Mitchell Whitley, 81, of 12248 Whitfield Park Lane, died June 2, 1995.
A native of Surry County, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Selma Frances Britt Mitchell and was predeceased by her son, Alvin Donald Whitley. Mrs. Whitley was a former member of the Women of the Moose and a past senior regent of Suffolk Lodge (NU)141.
Survivors include her husband, Jacob Whitley; two daughters, Shirley W. Matthews of Windsor, Margaret W. Keator of Newport News; one son, John Thomas Whitley of Torrington, Conn.; four sisters, Irma M. Lowrey of Allison Park, Pa., Selma M. Winebarger of Yorktown, Rita M. Parker of Va. Beach, Peggy M. Bassford of Wichita, Kan.; five brothers, Albert Mitchell of Staunton, Robert S. Mitchell of Hampton, Douglas S. Mitchell of Scotland Neck, N.C., William F. Mitchell of Hampton, John E. Mitchell of Newport News; an aunt, Clara Mitchell of Va. Beach; eight grandchildren, Michael O. Matthews, Carol M. Tuberty, Donald T. Whitley, Laurie W. Rogers, Alvin M. Whitley, Elizabeth Britt Whitley, John D. Whitley, Jennifer A. Keator; nine great-grandchildren, Shirley A. Matthews, J.J. Merkel, Mikki Merkel, Mindi Merkel, Cici Matthews, Marissa E. Matthews, Sean Warren, Tyler Rogers, Whitley Rogers.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by Dr. Alan Felumlee. Burial will be in Newman Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
