Virginia Power set a world record by restarting one of its North Anna nuclear reactors just 68 days after shutting it down to replace the unit's three steam generators. Its North Anna Unit 2, near Fredericksburg, began generating electricity 15 days ahead of schedule and more than $12 million under budget, the Richmond-based utility said. Beating the schedule will save Virginia Power's ratepayers about $4.5 million in fuel costs because the utility's nuclear reactors are its cheapest source of electricity.
