Vision 2005, the city's economic development plan, seems to be moving right along with citizen groups meeting on a regular basis to keep it going.
One of the usual pitfalls of grand schemes to remake a city is that they take too long to get beyond looking good and sounding good. But this plan seems to have captured the imagination of enough citizens to make an impact.
There's no way the city staff can keep all the parts of the plan moving simultaneously. Nor are they apt to maintain their pace if left to their own devices.
The involvement of enthusiastic citizens is vital if city staff is going to maintain the tremendous energy needed to implement a plan of this magnitude.
Perhaps the real moving force in the whole scheme of things is the knowledge of staff and citizens alike that if we don't make the plan work, Portsmouth's future will be clouded. by CNB
