SHIVER ME TIMBERS!

ILLUSTRATION: Like all good pirates, Justin Mason, 9, concentrates on making a

treasure map, while Stephen Boyd, 9, prepares to open a treasure

Third-graders at College Park Elementary School have been learning

about the history of Virginia Beach. Since one of the areas they are

studying has to do with pirates, they recently held a ``Pirate

Day.'' Students got the chance to dress up as pirates, as well as

the opportunity to make pirate ships, flags and tie knots. They also

made treasure maps and wrote pirate adventure stories. Navy man

Rondrae Smith volunteered to show the young pirates how to tie

knots.
