WILLIAM C. MEYER

William C. ``Bill'' Meyer, 75, of the 2300 block of N. Wolfsnare Road, a retired major, died June 2, 1995 in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mr. Myer was born in Dover, N.J. He retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years and served the Treasury Department, also retired as chief of security and tolls at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and retired in 1981. He was a long-time member of St. Francis Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry. He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of the 30th Infantry Division, participated in the Normandy Invasion and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for action in the Battle of the Bulge. He was active with Hospice Volunteers and honored as Hospice Volunteer of the Year. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Virginia Police Association, International Association of Police Chiefs and the Corvair Society of America and was an avid animal lover.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Meyer; two daughters, Sally M. Grant of Winchester, Va., and Sandie Quintana of Durham, N.C.; a son, William K. Meyer of Fairfax, Va.; a brother, Eugene F. Meyer of Monterey, Va.; seven grandchildren, Kristinia Gregory of Durham, N.C., Dawn Gregory of Herndon, Va., Carrie Micheau of Virginia Beach, Stefan Meyer of Sacramento, Calif., and Matthew Meyer, Emily Meyer and Lacy Meyer, all of Fairfax, Va.;. and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Catherine, Rikki-Rae and Michael.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Episcopal Church by the Rev. Clayton Criggor. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation at Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church or Hospice Volunteers, Inc., Virginia Beach.
