Gerald Wayne Beisel, 63, a retired Naval Commander, died June 3, 1995, in Norfolk, Virginia.
He retired from the Navy in 1979 after 26 years and was a former Virginia Beach building inspector, and a 31-year resident of Virginia Beach. Mr. Beisel received the Distinguished Flying Cross and flew 100 missions over North Vietnam in the A-6 Intruder.
He was born in Okeene, Oklahoma, and graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. He received his commission in the Navy in 1955. Gerald was a member of the Church of the Redeemer.
Survivors include his wife, Alma R. Beisel, a daughter, Crista Luke of Virginia Beach; a son, Cory R. Beisel of Virginia Beach; his mother, Iva Mae Beisel of Dallas, Texas; and a brother, Joe E. Beisel of Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 1995, at Virginia Beach Christian Church by Dr. William E. Austin and Reverend Wally E. Odom. A private military service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery. The family will greet their friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on June 4, 1995 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, The Church of the Redeemer building fund, the Virginia Beach Christian Church Outreach Program, or the Virginia Beach SPCA.
