Hillard Shapiro, of the 400 block of Dundaff St., the retired owner of Hillard Furniture Inc. for 60 years, died June 5, 1995, at home.
Mr. Shapiro was born in Lithuania, Russia. He was a member of B'nai Israel Congregation in Norfolk, and was a lay leader for 25 years, trustee and former secretary of Chevra Thilim Congregation in Portsmouth, and was active in Gomley Chessed Synagogue, Portsmouth, in their Rabbi's absence. He was formerly on the Chevra Kadisha for Chevra Thilim and was head of its cemetery committee. He was a lifetime member of the Jewish War Veterans and was its past secretary.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Shapiro of Norfolk; several nieces and nephews, Hubert and Brenda Shapiro, Howard Sackstein, Harriette Shapiro and Shiela Wasserman, all of Norfolk; and a sister-in-law, Esther Goodman of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today in Chevra Thilim Cemetery by Rabbi Israel Bornstein. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
