An assistant manager at a self-serve car wash told police Monday he was robbed and assaulted by two short people wearing ninja-like outfits.
The incident happened at 12:30 p.m. at the Southern Pride car wash near the intersection of Harper's Road and Oceana Boulevard. The assistant manager told investigators two people dressed in black with black masks confronted him in the car-wash office. He told police both were about 5-feet tall, and they were wearing ninja-style clothing.
The suspects parked a car - described as a dark blue Chevrolet Cavalier or Beretta with a Puerto Rico sticker on the trunk - in one of the car-wash bays.
The victim told police he saw a gun and heard a bang, but police do not believe the victim was shot, Sgt. Tony Zucaro said.
Zucaro said police and physicians who examined the wound said it did not look like it came from a gunshot. Police did not recover a shell casing or slug.
Police identified the victim as Pedro E. Medoro, 30, of the 9500 block of Mason Creek Road in Norfolk. He was listed in fair condition in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Police said he did suffer some type of head wound that bled heavily.
Police said Medoro closed and locked the car-wash office after the robbers left. He walked to a nearby 7-Eleven, where a clerk called police. Store employees cleaned up the blood before detectives arrived, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call 427-0000.
