A woman suspected of setting her dog on fire on last week is being held in the Norfolk City Jail on an unrelated probation violation, police spokesman Larry Hill said Tuesday.
Rosalind White of the 1100 block of Jernigan Ave. was arrested Tuesday on an outstanding warrant, Hill said.
Police said that on May 30 White set afire her year-old German shepherd named Furious, after the dog tore up the house. Furious suffered burns on its lower back and tail, and its whiskers were singed.
Another dog, an 8-month-old yellow Labrador mix named Voodoo, was taken away from White for the dog's safety, Hill said.
White is scheduled to appear in General District Court on June 12 to answer charges of being an unfit owner, Hill said. The hearing will determine whether she will be able to own pets. Another court date is set for July 11. White will answer cruelty-to-animal and dog-license charges, Hill said.
