Police have charged a suspect with the slaying of a 39-year-old man whose body was found Sunday behind a building on LaSalle Avenue.
Carlton E. Smith, 36, of 81 Calvary Terrace was arrested at his residence Tuesday.
Police believe Smith bludgeoned Richard A. Sharps to death. A security guard found Sharps' body behind the Hampton Community Services Center at 3:45 a.m.
Investigators think Smith and Sharps had an ongoing disagreement, stemming from allegations that the victim was selling imitation crack cocaine, Hampton police spokesman Donnie Moore said.
