IT LOOKED like a dozen pastry chefs had gone on a caffiene binge, then hit the kitchen.
It was the finals of the Pungo Strawberry Festival Cook-Off, and desserts were all the way down the tables: labor-intensive creations with several layers and garnishes.
And, as a contest judge, I had to taste each and every one. Sometimes this job is so-o-o-o hard.
Out of nearly 100 entries, 12 finalists were chosen by a team of chefs from Johnson & Wales University in Norfolk. At noon on May 28, Johnson & Wales chef Art Elvins, writer Dawson Mills and I picked the winners.
