Free lunch-time trolley service Downtown began Monday and will continue through Sept. 1, running every 10 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The buses will follow a route from the Naval Medical Center down Effingham Street to High Street. They will proceed down High Street, making a right onto Crawford Street, turn into Columbia Street at City Hall, then onto Water Street and head to Portside.
The trolleys will stop at all TRT bus stops along the way, enabling riders to get on and off at points closest to their destinations.
The free trolley service is jointly sponsored by the City of Portsmouth and the Olde Towne Portsmouth Association.
A flier distributed over the weekend lists businesses along the route, including 35 places to eat. Many of the restaurants will offer Special Lunch-Time Trolley Deals, including two-fers, free drinks and discounts. In addition, many eating places will take orders in advance by telephone. by CNB
