GREEN RUN'S STALLIONS DOMINATE THE TOP PICKS DAVID ELMORE WAS NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR. COACHING HONORS WENT TO KELLAM'S JIM MOXEY.

GREEN RUN's Stallions, who were dominant for most of the regular season, also dominated the All-Beach District team, as chosen by the district's head coaches.

Lefthanded pitcher/first baseman David Elmore was named the district's player of the year while Kellam's Jim Moxey was named coach of the year.

The Stallions, who shared the Beach District regular-season title with First Colonial then beat the Patriots in a playoff game for the district's top Eastern Region playoff berth, landed four players on the first team at six of the team's 12 positions.

David Abbott was the other Stallion garnering two spots as the district's top shortstop and righthanded pitcher. Abbott was the district's player of the year last season.

Green Run catcher John Defere and second baseman Gene Mugler were the other Stallions named to the first team.

Elmore, who has signed with the University of North Carolina, was 8-0 in the regular season with a 0.54 earned run average. In 55 innings, he struck out 78 while walking 15. He hit .375.

Abbott hit .411 during the regular season with 28 runs batted in and four home runs. As a pitcher, he was 6-1 with a 0.76 ERA, striking out 55 in 42 innings. He walked 13.

Defere hit .351 with four home runs and 21 RBI while Mugler hit .365 with 27 RBI.

All of Green Run's first-team selections are seniors.

Cox junior third baseman Aaron Strausbaugh, who hit .355, rounds out the first team.

Kellam was the only other team with multiple first-team selections.

Knights junior Mike Godwin, who hit .429, was named the team's designated hitter while junior Tim Walston, who hit .353 with a district-leading seven home runs, was part of the outfield corps.

Joining Walston in the outfield are First Colonial senior David Winter, who hit .387, and Tallwood senior Cisco Del Carmen, who batted .384.

Ocean Lakes' Pat Abelon, who has signed with Virginia Military Institute, was selected as the district's top utility player.

Highlighting the second-team selections were First Colonial lefthanded pitcher Jamie Booth, who was 7-1 with a 1.39 ERA and no-hit Tallwood in the final game of the regular season, and Cox sophomore Jason Dubois, who threw three no-hitters and hit .475 and was named second-team utility player.
