The toll plaza on the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway has been razed, nine days ahead of schedule.
The contractors, who had been given until June 15 to get the job done, completed the work Tuesday night. Tolls were removed June 1.
Within a week, the contractors will begin leveling and repaving the road at the edge of the eastbound and westbound lanes.
After the repaving is completed, traffic will be moved to the repaved lanes so the center of the road can be regraded. Work is scheduled for completion by Nov. 1.
As a result of an incentive clause in their contract, the contractors who removed the toll plaza will receive a $10,000 bonus for each day they finished early, amounting to about $90,000. by CNB
