State Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr., whose district includes the Eastern Shore's two counties in Virginia, Thursday announced his intention to run for re-election.
The Williamsburg Republican represents the 3rd Senatorial District, which includes Accomack and Northampton counties. The district also includes the Peninsula jurisdictions of James City County, Williamsburg, parts of Gloucester and York counties and Newport News.
Norment serves on three Senate committees: Agriculture Conservation and Natural Resources, Commerce and Labor, and Courts of Justice. During the 1994 General Assembly, he was elected leader pro tempore for Senate Republicans.
The senator said he supports a ``fiscally prudent'' state budget which ``maintains funding of important state services such as public libraries, higher and secondary education, the extension service and research stations, soil and water conservation programs and mental health.''
``My Eastern Shore constituents need a strong voice to help them with state government problems,'' Norment said. by CNB
