MAN SHOT TO DEATH

A 39-year-old man was found shot to death late Saturday night in his garage in the 1500 block of Portsmouth Blvd., police spokesman G.A. Brown said Sunday.

The man was identified as George William Walker Jr. Police found him about 11:39 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting. He had gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, Brown said.

Police had not identified any suspects or a motive Sunday afternoon.

Just before the shooting Walker had awakened his wife and was given an unspecified amount of money, Brown said.

About five minutes later the woman heard a gunshot and someone yelling.

His wife, who was not identified, ran to a nearby restaurant for help. An employee found the victim and called police.

Shortly after the shots were heard, two men were seen running from the residence, Brown said.

Investigators determined that some type of drug activity recently had occurred in the garage. An unloaded semi-automatic handgun, numerous shell casings and drug paraphernalia were found near Walker's body.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 393-8536 or Crime Line at 488-7777.
