BROADCAST EXECUTIVE APPOINTED TO BOARD OF VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

John A. Trinder, a 54-year-old Virginia Beach broadcasting executive, was appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees of Virginia Wesleyan College Friday.

Trinder is president and chief operating officer of Max Media, which owns or operates four television and five radio stations in cities including Norfolk, Syracuse, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio.

Trinder began his career with Landmark Communications Inc., working in sales and sales management at WTAR-TV, the CBS affiliate in Norfolk. The station, renamed WTKR, now is owned by Narragansett Television Inc. of Providence, R.I.

Trinder received his bachelor's degree from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. He lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, Priscilla. They have two grown sons, Kenneth and James.

``He possesses that combination of believing very strongly in the small liberal arts college and being an extremely high-powered, energetic businessman,'' said Wesleyan's president, William T. ``Billy'' Greer Jr. ``He will bring to the Board of Trustees a love of what we're about and a good business head that will enable us to continue to revitalize the school.''

Trinder's appointment was approved at the annual meeting of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in Roanoke. Wesleyan is a Methodist-affiliated liberal arts college. ILLUSTRATION: Trinder
