FORUM ON IMPROVING COMMUNITIES

Leaders from business, health care, education, engineering, criminal justice and social services will participate in a forum today to discuss strategies for improving communities in Hampton Roads.

The program, called the Institute on Interprofessional Collaboration in Community Leadership, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Webb University Center at Old Dominion University.

James F. Babcock, chairman and CEO of First Virginia Bank of Tidewater, will give the opening talk.

He will be focusing on ways professions can join forces to improve the lifestyles of families.

In the afternoon session, Dr. Edward E. Brickel, president of the Medical College of Hampton Roads, will discuss the differences between management and leadership.

Participants will also divide into focus groups for in-depth discussions.

The institute formed out of a multidisciplinary leadership class composed of 28 ODU graduate students.

The students will facilitate the focus groups and work with ODU professors to obtain grants toward community improvement. by CNB
