BOATER MISSING IN CHESAPEAKE BAY

A search for a missing boater was suspended as darkness fell Friday night, police said.

The missing 43-year-old man was on a 16-foot catamaran with his brother when the craft overturned about 5:30 p.m. in the Chesapeake Bay near the Buckroe Beach fishing pier at the end of Seaboard Avenue.

The surviving brother swam to shore and called for help.

Hampton police and rescue personnel were assisted by the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and boats from Norfolk and Virginia Beach police.

The name of the missing man was withheld late Friday.
