CLUB CLAIMS FOUR TITLES IN FESTIVAL GAMES

THE CHESAPEAKE SELECT Soccer Club qualified five of its eight entries in the finals of the McDonald's Soccer Festival May 27-29 and won four titles.

The U-11 Blast routed the competition in its five games, winning four on shutouts by keeper Christopher Wawner.

The U-11 Blast opened with a 6-0 win over the Yorktown Bullets on a hat trick by Mark McDuff, two goals by Andrew Zapetero, and a score by Ross Gilmore.

Next up was the Prince William Renegades, who also fell by a 6-0 score. McDuff added two more goals, and Zapetero, Gilmore, Tripp Miller and Jimmy McCabe also scored.

The U-11 Blast faced the Raleigh Blaze in game three and notched a 1-0 victory on Gilmore's goal.

In the semifinals, Wawner finally gave up a goal to Gunston, but Gilmore and Brian Seifert tallied for the Blast in a 2-1 win.

The final was a rematch with the Raleigh Blaze, and the outcome was the same, with the U-11 Blast taking the title with another 1-0 win. Miller had the game-winning goal.

The U-13 Blast started its run to a championship by defeating the defending champion Stafford Sharks, 2-1, on goals by R.C. Milne and Travis Bock in the opening round.

Game two matched the Blast against the Sterling Hurricanes. Milne tallied again and the Blast added goals from Scott Chappell, Dan Johnson and James Jackson in a 4-1 win.

In the semifinals, the Gloucester Outlaws dueled the U-13 Blast to a scoreless tie through most of the game, but a last-minute goal by Johnson gave the Blast a 1-0 win and sent the team to the finals and a rematch with Stafford.

Against the Sharks, Milne scored to give the Blast a 1-1 tie, and Patrick Bryan came through with the game-winner.

The U-14 Rebels rebounded from an opening round loss, 1-0, to the Laurel Lightning, to win four straight en route to the championship in the 14-under age bracket.

The final, against the Lafayette Hawks, was a nail-biter until the end. The game was tied 1-1 after regulation, with the Rebels' goal coming from Wasden.

The tournament title came down to penalty kicks, and the Rebels came out on top with converted PK shots by Harcum, Lindsay Vanderspielgel and keeper Aaron Shepley.

The U-17 Chesapeake Premier team won its title with an easy 6-2 win over the Atlantic Azzuri in the finals.

The U-14 Rebels finished the season by claiming a title in the SEVYSA End of Season Tournament June 3-4.

The Rebels opened the competition with a 4-1 win over the Atlantic Sharks. The team earned a trip to the finals by smashing the Lafayette Hawks, 6-0.

In the finals, the Rebels faced the Newport News Redman. Although the game finished in a 0-0 tie, the Rebels had accumulated enough points to be awarded the title. by CNB
