POLITICAL FEVER RAN HIGH last week as 31 candidates filed for November's general elections in Suffolk and western Tidewater.
Three candidates in Southampton County and one in Isle of Wight filed Tuesday, the deadline, creating competition in three races that had been uncontested until then.
Ten incumbents are seeking re-election without opposition.
But competition is keen in the other nine contests, where 21 candidates have packed the ballots.
The Southampton County treasurer's race attracted most filing interest, with three people challenging the incumbent. And in Isle of Wight County, two candidates are trying to unseat the incumbent sheriff, who is running for re-election.
Newcomers will grab at least two of the seven seats on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors because the incumbents are not seeking re-election. And veteran supervisors face competition in two other districts.
