Southampton County Board of Supervisors
C. Harrell Turner, a 12-year veteran on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors, could be the next board chairman, according to some supervisors and county residents.
But first, he would have to be re-elected this fall to represent the Boykins district. He's being challenged by Carl J. Faison, who tried unsuccessfully to unseat Turner eight years ago.
He was disqualified after he discovered he lived in the Capron district. Now, thanks to redistricting, he's eligible.
Turner, 45, is procurement operations manager for the woodlands division of Union Camp Corp. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he is a member of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and chairman of the state Reforestation Board.
Faison, a probation officer, has bachelor's and master's degrees from the former Hampton Institute, now Hampton University.
Turner hopes to see the completion of three board projects: A regional water and sewer system, better cooperation between the board and school officials, and development of the Southampton Agri-business Industrial Park.
Faison is interested in supporting the school system and providing more jobs. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
