           Southampton County Board of Supervisors 
           Two independents - Robert M. ``Bob'' Felts Jr. and Dennis A. 
        Maddrey - hope to represent the Berlin-Ivor district on the 
        Southampton County Board of Supervisors, the seat being vacated by the
        current board chairman, who is retiring.
           Felts, 48, is president of R.M. Felts Packing Co. in Ivor. A 
        graduate of Wingate College, he has completed the Virginia Rural 
        Leadership Development program and the Virginia Institute of Political
        Leadership.
           Maddrey, 53, is a rural mail carrier. A graduate of the College of 
        William and Mary, he is a former teacher and coach. He is a member of 
        the Southampton Planning Commission and president of the Virginia 
        Rural Letter Carriers' Association.
           Maddrey, who has been through several updates to the county's 
        Comprehensive Plan, stresses the need for industrial development to 
        lessen the tax burden on residents.
           Felts' goals are to help support schools, provide recreational 
        opportunities, a countywide recycling program and long-range planning 
        for housing.
