Southampton County Board of Supervisors
Veteran Southampton County Supervisor Reggie W. Gilliam is being challenged this year by political newcomer Edwin E. Seymore.
Gilliam, 68, has represented the Capron district for 16 years and has been vice chairman for eight years.
Gilliam, a Democrat, is chairman of the county Highway Safety Commission and the board's representative to the Tidewater Group Home Committee.
He hopes to see the completion of several board projects: a regional sewer system, the Southampton Agri-business Industrial Park and renovation of Southampton Middle School. Economic development is vital, he said.
Gilliam, a Southampton County native, is a retired radio and TV repairman.
Seymore, 56, moved to the county from Virginia Beach 11 years ago. He believes the county needs additional jobs for residents and long-range planning to ensure controlled growth.
Seymore, who is running as an independent, is a farmer and cotton scout. He is a member of the county's Farmers Market planning committee. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
