Treasurer
The race for Southampton County treasurer is crowded, with three independent candidates challenging David K. Britt, the Democratic incumbent (no photo available).
Britt, 35, was elected four years ago without opposition.
His challengers are Gary D. Baugham, Earva Jones-Sumblin and Jeannette S. Everett.
Baugham, 32, is office coordinator for Parker Oil Co. in Boykins. A Southampton High School graduate, he is a political newcomer.
Jones-Sumblin, 43, is senior vice president of Priamericia Financial Services and founder of ``GRUP'' Opportunity Travel Service, both in Boykins. A graduate of St. Paul's College, she ran unsuccessfully for treasurer four years ago and for commissioner of revenue in 1983.
Jeannette Everett, assistant commissioner of revenue, ran for the commissioner's post last year, trailing Harrup in a three-way race. She has worked in the commissioner's office for 6 1/2 years and has also worked in banking. A graduate of Southampton Academy, she attended Chowan College.
Britt was deputy treasurer four years before replacing the former treasurer, who retired. He is a graduate of Atlantic Christian College with a degree in business administration. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
