Mr. William Theron Swafford, age 75, died Friday, June 16, 1995, at his home. Born in Cumberland County, Tenn., he had lived in Norfolk, Va., for many years before moving to Meadowview six years ago. He was a member of the Sibert Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Gatun, Republic of Panama. He was a lieutenant commander in the Navy with 30 years of service before retiring in 1971; and was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master; he attended the Emory United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Natalie H. Maiden of Meadowview; a daughter, Dianne Swafford of Millville, Mass.; two sons, W.R. Swafford of Gales Ferry, Conn., and Benjamin Swafford of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Terry M. Wilkinson of Roanoke; two stepsons, John P. Maiden Jr. of Abingdon and Timothy C. Maiden of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Nevada Burke of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Funeral services for Mr. William Theron Swafford will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 1995, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kathie R. Wilson-Parker officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday night in the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home by the Masonic Lodge 48 of Abingdon.
