Veronica Michelle Slaton Gaines, 25, of the 900 block of Lake Village Drive, died Saturday, June 17, 1995, peacefully in Maryview Medical Center with her family at her side.
She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of George W. Slaton Sr. and the late Margaret L. Bell Slaton. She was a member of St. John AME and was a graduate of Churchland High School.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis L. Gaines Jr. of the home; her father, George W. Slaton Sr.; four sisters, Wilhelmenia B. Dukes, Patricia S. Coleman, Constance L. Sharp and Juanita B. Kearney; two brothers, George W. Slaton Jr. and Donald L. Bell Sr.; mother-in-law, Gloria Gaines; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church Pughesville by the Rev. William Russell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will assemble at 7000 Auburn Ave. Wednesday for the processional.
