Four youths escaped from a stolen car Sunday afternoon as it slammed into a Norfolk Southern train. Three were caught by police.
Police said the car, a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim, hit the train at a crossing in the 1000 block of Goff St. Police said it appears the youths were trying to avoid a police car they had seen and apparently were unaware of the train.
The car had been stolen sometime after 8:45 a.m. from a 7-Eleven store in the 1500 block of E. Little Creek Road.
Among the three people caught was the one believed to have been driving at the time of the crash. He was identified as DeAngelo Stephenson, 18, of the 2900 block of McLemore St. He was charged with hit and run for leaving the scene of the accident and with possession of stolen property. Police said he was also wanted on two charges for failing to appear in court.
The other youths were 15 and 16.
