Recent catches in Virginia have included the biggest black drum, flounder, white marlin and bluefin tuna landed in the state this year.
The bluefin weighed 120 pounds and was caught at the Horseshoe Lumps off Virginia Beach by Kathy Ronnau of Richmond, aboard the boat Sandollar.
Preston R. Sudduth of Virginia Beach landed the white marlin, a 100-pounder caught near the Cigar, a seamount southeast of Rudee Inlet. He was aboard the Wide Open.
The black drum was boated at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and weighed 98 1/2 pounds. It was caught by Wayne Couch of Virginia Beach on the Plan Sea.
The flounder weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces, and was claimed by Wade R. Vaught of Virginia Beach on the Danny Boy. He also was at the bridge-tunnel.
Elsewhere, cobia highlighted the inshore scene in the Chesapeake Bay, with the hottest action on Bluefish Rock off Hampton and on Latimer Shoals, near the north end of the bridge-tunnel.
The shellcracker run on Western Branch Reservoir in Suffolk again dominated freshwater action.
