ISAAC M. BAKER JR.

Isaac ``Junie'' Mitchell Baker Jr., 82, of the 1300 block of Windsor Point Rd., died on Monday evening, June 19, 1995, in his residence. He was born in Norfolk, and was the son of the late Mary Peed and Isaac M. Baker Sr. He was the founder and former chief executive officer of Baker & Co., Baker Sheet Metal Co., and Sarjune Inc., and was presently serving as a consultant to all of the firms.

Mr. Baker was an active member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Maury High School, a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II, and also served in the Army Reserve where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an honored 33rd Degree Mason, a member of Norfolk Masonic Lodge, No. 1, Owens Masonic Lodge, No. 164., Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies where he was Director of Work for 20 years, Khedive Shrine Temple, Order of Jesters, No. 75, and was an Honorary member of the Sudan Shrine Temple in New Bern, N.C. He was a 19-year member of the Advisory Board of the former Bank of Virginia, Chairman of the Board for 6 years of the Salvation Army, Past President of the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club, and a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He also was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars, the 36th Infantry Association, and the Reserve Officers Association where he was a Life Member.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Lee Kirby Baker; two nieces Sarah Elms of Norfolk and Marymarie Franklin of Carthage, Mo.; a nephew, R. E. Baker of Norfolk, and an adopted niece, Sterling Heller of Seabrook, Texas.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted with military honors at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 1995, in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rev. Richard S. Ruggles. Memorial contributions may be made to Norfolk Botanical Gardens, Sentara-Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing, or to the American Cancer Society. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
