James T. Joyner, 69, of the 600 block of Cardinal Ave., died June 18, 1995, in Martin Army Community Hospital.
Mr. Joyner was born in Suffolk on Nov. 10, 1925. He was retired as a first sergeant from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service and was the former manager of Wild Bill Party Shop. He served as vice commander of DAV (NU)56; former exalted ruler of Elks Club; a member of American Legion and the AMVET. He was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church. He attended East Suffolk High School and celebrated the 50th Class Reunion of 1944 in October 1994. He was the widower of Bertha B. Joyner and was predeceased by his parents, Georgia Sharp Joyner and James Joyner.
Survivors include two sons, James T. Joyner Jr. and Michael B. Joyner, both of Hawkinsville, Ga.; four daughters, Barbara J. Banks and C. Denise Joyner, both of Columbus, Shirley Pettigrew of Philadelphia and Phyllis J. Robinson of Roswell Ga.; three sisters, Juanita J. Harris of Norfolk, Althalla J. Richards and Georgia J. Williams, both of Suffolk; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, James Richardson of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Pinehurst Baptist Church, Columbus, Ga. with interment in Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, Ga., with Progressive Funeral Home in charge. Local information was provided by Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va.
