RICHARD W. POPE

Richard Waverly Pope, 100, of the 18300 block of Barrow Road, a retired farmer, died June 18, 1995, in Courtland Health Care Center.

A native of Newsoms, he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Boykins, where he was the oldest Deacon and a former treasurer of the church. He was a member of Sunbeam Masonic Lodge (NU)118 of Newsoms. In 1976, Shiloh Baptist Church honored him as the oldest male member with 67 years of service. In 1993, the 10th Masonic District of the Prince Hall Affiliated honored him for 50 years of membership and on July 12, 1994, the members of the Sunbeam Lodge (NU)118 had a 100th birthday party for him at Courtland Health Care Center.

Survivors include his wife, Hopie Pope of Newsoms; two daughters, Ruth P. Hopkins of Franklin and Elizabeth Tennessee of Richmond; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Shiloh Baptist Church, Boykins, by the Rev. Anthony Ferebee. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites accorded at the grave. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ruth P. Hopkins, 408 Barrett St., Franklin, and will assemble there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday for the procession to the church. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in Engram Funeral Home, Courtland.
