ERNEST S. ALSTON

Ernest Samuel ``Pete'' Alston, 79, of 101 Carroll St., died Monday, June 19, 1995, in Pitt Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Bertie County, and was a former manager of the Western Auto and the Bertie County Peanut Co-op. Mr. Alston was a Navy CB Veteran of World War II, former fire chief of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and a charter member of the Cashie Cook Club.

Survivors include his wife, Della Mae Thompson Alston; his son, Dr. Peter Van Alston of Kingston, N.C.; three sisters, Edna Stokes of Virginia Beach, Annie Grey Cook and Janie A. Howard, both of Norfolk; two brothers, Charles W. Alston and Sidney Alston, both of Norfolk; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Walker Funeral Chapel, Windsor, N.C., by the Rev. Jack Byrd. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, P.O Box 508, Windsor, N.C. 27983.
