Sidney L. Faucette was sworn in as superintendent of the Gwinnett County, Ga., schools Tuesday night, becoming the leader of one of the largest public school systems in Georgia and one of the fastest growing in the country.
Faucette resigned as superintendent of Virginia Beach schools to take the job.
He bid an emotional farewell to Beach School Board members in a meeting earlier this month.
The Georgia post pays $135,000, with additional compensation of more than $20,000 per year. Officials in Gwinnett expect 84,000 students to enroll this fall.
For leading the 75,000-student Virginia Beach school system, Faucette was paid $120,000 a year.
The Beach School Board has appointed James L. Pughsley interim superintendent as a search begins to replace Faucette. by CNB
