The Norfolk Police Dive Team pulled the body of a man from the river just after 2 p.m. He was later identified as Dennis O'Toole, 25, of the 2000 block of Javelin Court in Virginia Beach.
The man fell about 11:30 a.m. from a beam that is part of a section that will be used to remodel the Coleman Bridge on the York River. He struck another beam before hitting the water, police said.
The body was sent to the medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
