STUDENT, 22, FOUND SHOT IN APARTMENT THE NATIVE OF HOUSTON WAS STUDYING AT NORFOLK STATE. NO SUSPECTS YET, POLICE SAY.

A Norfolk State University student who was shot to death in his apartment early Wednesday has been identified as 22-year-old Jaymes Turner, police spokesman Larry Hill reported.

Turner, a Houston native, lived in the 800 block of Marshall Ave., about a block off the NSU campus. The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m., Hill said. Turner died at the scene.

Police did not release a motive for the shooting, and no suspects had been arrested late Wednesday. They declined to say what type of gun was used or where Turner was shot.

Hill said a group of people was visiting the apartment about the time of the shooting. Turner had two roommates, Hill said.

The university issued a news release, which said:

``While this tragedy did not actually occur on the NSU campus, we understand that the seriousness and close proximity, could perhaps be cause for fear and concern among some of our other students.''

University officials would not release any academic information about Turner. Fellow students said he was a freshman majoring in architectural drafting. They also said he had a high grade-point average. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
