Regarding ``Dole's right'' (letter, June 10): There were some important factors that were not considered. One, if Dole is so concerned about the amount of violence, warfare and guns displayed in the movies, why is he in the NRA's back pocket and a supporter of lifting the assault-weapons ban?
The violence we see in the movies cannot be blamed on the media and the entertainment industry. It is only a symptom and reflection of the problems in this country, not the cause of such problems. One cannot possibly think that rap music is responsible for teens carrying guns, increases in teen drug use and pregnancy, and the increasing joblessness and despair in our inner cities.
We need to stop looking for excuses and blaming the entertainment industry and instead start working to solve the real problems our society faces.
