Ida P. Armstead, 65, of the 3800 block of Greenwood Drive, died June 21, 1995, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
She was a native of Warrenton, N.C., and was the widow of Joseph Armstead Sr. She was a retired housekeeping secretary with Old Dominion University and was a former member of (NU)2 Usher Board, and a former assistant superintendent, of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church. She was also a member of Alamoth Chapter (NU)93, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia L. Armstead of Portsmouth; one son, Joseph Armstead Jr., of Portsmouth; five sisters, Sallie M. Alston, Eula S. Preuitt, Geraldine S. Coleman, all of Portsmouth, Beulah Thomas and Arldyne Lindsey, both of Long Island, N.Y.; one brother, Thomas H. Bell of Fort Worth, Texas; and aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in New Mount Olivet Baptist Church by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will be at noon Sunday in Corprew Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Monday. The family gratefully acknowledges Portsmouth Naval Hospital Intensive Care Unit Staff for their dedication and kindness shown during her illness.
