A recent graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk has died from injuries she suffered in a car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Dr. Evelyn Lin, who earned her medical degree a month before the accident, was moving to Boston to start a residency at Boston University Medical Center Hospital, an EVMS spokeswoman said.
Lin had planned to specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, the spokeswoman said.
The 28-year-old physician was driving north on the turnpike near Cherry Hill at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday when her car went off the left lane, New Jersey state police said.
The car struck a concrete divider, where it continued moving, then crashed.
It is unclear why Lin lost control of her car, police said.
Lin died from her injuries at about 10 p.m. at Cherry Hill Hospital, police said.
``Evelyn was a good friend and a really nice person,'' said Dr. Laura Kerbin, a fellow EVMS graduate. ``She liked helping people who had strokes and helping people learn how to walk.
``We are all still in shock.''
Lin lived in Norfolk for the four years she was an EVMS student, Kerbin said.
She graduated May 20.
A resident of Chantilly, Va., Lin was a 1988 graduate of the University of Virginia, the EVMS spokeswoman said.
She is survived by a brother and two sisters. by CNB
