Ever think about buying Tower Mall?
The mall, the Commodore Theatre and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard are all for sale in the Game of Portsmouth, a new business investment board game sponsored and sold by the Portsmouth Jaycees.
The Wheeler-Dealer game, similar to Monopoly, is played on a colorful game board that features more than 100 local businesses, civic clubs and individuals.
With a roll of the dice, players can take title to local businesses, determine their tax bill and invest in the commodity futures exchange. Draw a card and you can pay off a mortgage or lose a bundle.
The game is designed with several levels of playing complexity so players ages 8 to adult can all enjoy the challenge.
Sonya Carr, Jaycees president, said that similar games have been marketed successfully by Jaycees in other cities across the country. Locally, the Game of Smithfield became something of a collector's item soon after it went on sale.
The Game of Portsmouth, complete with playing board, game pieces, dice, title and deed cards, and rules, sells for $15.
The game is available at the visitors' center at Portside, Old Town Exxon, Poffenbarger's Bakery in Churchland, Better Vision Eye Glass Center on County St., and the Portsmouth YMCA in Churchland.
