Recently I received an ``Action Alert'' from John Hornbeck, president and CEO of Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, urging me to contact Mayors Oberndorf and Fraim to encourage an immediate resolution of the current water dispute and to attend a public hearing at the Virginia Beach Pavillion on June 13.
The alert metioned ``a number of new businesses that were considering Hampton Roads locations that have settled in other areas due to concerns about the region's water supply.''
Since the local media have not done a very good job of helping us understand what the real sticking points are, maybe the Chamber can. Maybe the Cahmber can be more forceful in helping with a solution.
What were the ``new businesses''? Where were they looking? Whom did they talk to? What were they told?
This is an issue that is going to have long-term effects. The Chamber board of directors must have given the matter some serious consideration when they had Mr. Hornbeck issue the alert. In the interest of Hampton Roads' future, why not take the next step by getting more involved in the public debate? Maybe even point some fingers.
