Greta Jane ``Jane'' Gierke, 65, died on Monday, June 26, 1995, in her residence.
Mrs. Gierke was born in Wheeling, W.Va. She was attending Great Neck Baptist Church. She was a ham radio operator (KA6UXX) and a member of the Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club (VBARC). Mrs. Gierke received a certificate of merit from the American Radio Relay League for outstanding services to Amateur Radio. Additionally, she was commended for handling family communications during Desert Storm. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 392. She was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School in Mount Lebanon, Pa., and a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Owen A. Gierke; four daughters, Carol Harms and son-in-law, Loren Harms, Phyllis Wheeler and son-in-law, Jack Wheeler, Sandy Kaplafka and son-in-law, Michael Kaplafka, Lisa Sweeney and son-in-law, Jim Sweeney; one son, Robert Gierke and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Gierke; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, at 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Bill Kincaid.
