James Bernard ``Pork Chop'' Copeland Sr., of the 2700 block of Whitestone Ave., died June 26, 1995 in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Copeland was born in Norfolk County. He was a retired truck driver for the Naval Ammunition Depot after 37 years and E.V. Williams Company after 15 years, a member of First Baptist Church Gilmerton, formerly associated with Rock Church, was a U.S. Army veteran and former member of Gilmerton Lion Tamers Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa L. Copeland; a foster daughter, Darlene F. Corprew of Norfolk; three sons, Leon Copeland, Sr., Vernon L. Copeland and Bobby Copeland, Sr., all of Chesapeake; three sisters, Helen Downing of Baltimore, Md., Ethel B. Parker and Olivia Sorrell, both of Chesapeake; a brother, Roland Copeland, Sr., of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three aunts, Earlene Gatling, Ora Beamon and Geneva Brown; three uncles, Elijah Copeland, David Copeland and Gilbert White; 2 sisters-in-law, Doretha Goodman and Evelyn Andrews; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a special friend, Brooks Johnson. He was predeceased by a son, James B. Copeland, Jr.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Gilmerton, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Edward Smith. Burial will be in Copeland Family Cemetery, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Friday.
