Thirteen Portsmouth students were honored this year by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
The center sponsors a contest each year for fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders who score high on standardized tests. Fifth- and sixth-graders take a test that's designed for eighth- and ninth-graders. Seventh-graders take the high school SAT. Students who score well get awards.
About 4,150 Virginia students participated this year. There were 55,000 contestants nationally.
