There are Stingers, Zingers and Superstars. Devastators, Intimidators and Wacky Wackers. Good Girls, Bad Girls and Wild Things.
One hundred and twenty-eight teams compete in the Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Department's summer softball program. More than 1,800 girls participate in five divisions - training, midget, junior, teen and senior - with leagues in the Great Bridge, Western Branch, Deep Creek and Indian River/Oscar Smith areas.
Great Bridge has by far the largest participation, with 53 teams. So many girls were interested in playing that the midget and junior divisions had to be split into an American and National League.
Play will continue through July at sites throughout Chesapeake. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 436-8375 for more information. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photos by STEVE EARLEY
