TIDES' ISRINGHAUSEN, GARCIA ON ALL-STAR TEAM

Jason Isringhausen, who has yet to lose a Triple-A game in 10 starts, and Omar Garcia, a first baseman hitting .328, are the Norfolk Tides who have been selected to the National League team for the Triple-A all-star game. The game will be July 12 in Moosic, Pa., home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons.

The pair got the news Thursday, when the Tides, winners of nine of their last 11 games, were off. They open a three-game series with the Richmond Braves tonight at The Diamond in Richmond. The last two games will be Saturday and Sunday at Harbor Park.

Isringhausen and Garcia were among the 13 players elected to the team by their league's managers, coaches, media and club personnel. Ten extra players were selected by the offices of the International League, American Association and Pacific Coast League.

Each Triple-A affiliate must be represented.

Garcia, then, should be the National League's starting first baseman. Meanwhile, Isringhausen, by virtue of his 8-0 record and 1.15 ERA, not to mention his dominance over the Richmond Braves, stands a good chance of being tabbed to start the game by Richmond manager Grady Little, who will run the National League team.

Isringhausen is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA vs. Richmond.

The International League has 14 players on the two teams, seven in the National League and seven in the American League.

The Pacific Coast League has 20 players and the American Association is represented by 12 players, including former Tides outfielder Jeromy Burnitz of Buffalo.

The Triple-A all-star game will be televised on ESPN2, which is available on Cox Cable in South Hampton Roads for an additional fee.
