EUGENE W. SALANGA

Eugene ``Gene'' Whalen Salanga, 60, of the 600 block of Brunswick Road, died June 29, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center.

Mr. Salanga was born in Philadelphia and lived in Portsmouth most of his life. He was supervisor of training for Western Branch Diesel, Inc. where he had worked for the past 30 years. He was a 20-year member of the Detroit Diesel Craftsman Guild and a seven-year member of the Allison Transmission Guild. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 418; and St. Paul's Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Ann Salanga Sutton of Portsmouth; two sons, Eugene Christopher Salanga of Portsmouth and Anthony Keith Salanga of Chesapeake; his mother, Rita Whalen Salanga of Chesapeake; two sisters, Patricia Rita Murphy of Chesapeake and Barbara Janet Gibson of Portsmouth; and two grandchildren, Shane Anthony Salanga and Lindsey Brook Salanga.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph Slowik. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The family will be at his home following the burial. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Portsmouth-Chesapeake Unit, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
