TEEN HURT IN WRECK

A 17-year-old who was severely injured when the vehicle he was driving went out of control and flipped on Friday night remained in fair condition in intensive care Sunday.

It took rescue crews more than 30 minutes to free Graig G. Barrett from his overturned Chevrolet Blazer. He was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital.

The accident on Little Neck Road near Little Haven Road left residents of the Middle Plantation area stranded for more than two hours with no way in or out of the area because of the wreck.

Police said Barrett, 17, of the 200 block of Ash Ave., was speeding on Little Neck Road when he lost control of the Blazer and crossed into the northbound lane.

The Blazer struck a 1992 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Dr. Carl P. Roy, a Virginia Beach dentist. Roy, his wife Billye and their 7-year-old son Taylor were treated for minor injuries at Virginia Beach General Hospital and released.

Barrett was charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and driving after illegally consuming alcohol.
