Mr. John Wiley Halstead Sr., age 80, died Tuesday, July 4, at Albemarle Hospital. He was a native of Camden County, N.C., and had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the South Mills Ruritan Club.
Mr. Halstead was the son of the late William Ira and Pauline Jacobs Halstead and the widower of Caroline Garrison Halstead.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hatfield of Macon, Ga.; two sons, William S. Halstead of New Bern, N.C., and John W. Halstead Jr. of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Trinity United Methodist church with the Rev. Carolyn Smith and the Rev. Billy Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the South Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St. in Elizabeth City, N.C. on Wednesday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence of John W. Halstead Jr., 309 W. Church St., Elizabeth City.
